I have to say that I was really skeptical about buying a projector like this. I kept thinking that the picture quality wasn't going to be very good and I would regret the purchase. So I went overboard in reading all the feedback from people on this product and similar products, and I bit the bullet and bought the Optoma HD66. I am SO GLAD I did! First of all, when you compare this product with other products in this same product category - the price is unbeatable - especially for what you get. Second, I was so skeptical the picture quality wouldn't be good, and I was so pleasantly surprised. I have it displaying a nice big 120" diagonal screen. I'm also using a BlueRigger 25ft HDMI cable that is great quality at a great price. I have my DVD and my Direct TV (HD DVR) hooked up to it, and it's AWESOME! I'm so happy. I did spend some extra money on material for a screen that I attached to a wood frame and hung up - because I wanted to make sure the picture would display as crisp and clear as possible, and it was all worth it. The set up was easy, the price was great, and the picture quality is fantastic! I also hooked up my home theater surround sound system to it, and now our media room is really like going to a mini-movie theater at home! I did my homework before choosing the hd66.I was looking into the hd66 and the hd20,I chose the hd66 because it has more lumens and the price was great,and I knew that most stuff would come through at 1080p anyway.I think most of the bad reviews are because people take it out of the box and have trouble adjusting for the perfect color.But when you get this little projector adjusted right it is amazing,projectors have come a long way.I got this for my 19 year old son for christmas to use as a regular tv and xbox 360,I was unsure of it at first because he said he only wanted 1080p but this thing really does it all.The picture quality on the hd66 really is like watching my samsung 55inch plasma.I wanted a really nice set up at a affordable price I bought this projector and the 92 inch mustang screen all for a total of 590.00.I purchased the hd66 from amazon that they said was used but it all came in sealed original packaging with no hours on the bulb if it was used we sure couldnt tell.I am satified with this projector.The only thing I have really noticed that could be fixed is that it throws off alot of heat, we hooked it up in my sons room and he is away right now so there was no heat in there and its winter time here needless to say it did warm the room,which is not a problem for us because its winter and in the summer we run ac.The speakers are not good enough to use alone but thats a quick fix as well.Over all this projector will amaze you.Cant wait for my son to get home to see it ,maybe this will change his mind about moving 1000 miles away. optoma hd66 projector

It really is a great projector, very nice picture quality. Initially I was looking for 1080p projectors but I noticed the ones in my price range had slower refresh rates and I was a bit concerned about that so I got this one. This is my second Pj and I love it. It is smaller and brighter than the HC1500 I had. I wanted a 3D set up so I bought this along with the 3DXL and it has been an amazing experience. Just like everyone else i did my own research for weeks. was debating on a 1080p device or 3D ready device with 720p. Came down to this sucker and i aint looking back! personally i like being amazed and on top of being amazed i like saving money =). that being said this was the perfect projector for me to get because i of course took advantage of its 3d processor! i bought the viewsonic vp3d1 converter and it works great! i first tested it out with my xbox 360 but had some troubles at 1st because my output settings were at 1080p and this device (viewsonic vp3di) only reads 1080i. Once i switched the settings to 1080i the projector also allowed the 3D option to turn on. As far as the quality of this projector its brilliant! good for day and night settings. colors are awesome and quality is good as well. using through hdmi port which native is 720p 20mhz but with the viewsonic converter it automatically converts it to 1080i 60mhz. Only when its actual 3d content will it then display it at 720p 120mhz. as far as the glasses i bought the optoma dlp lnk hz1. my testing is still not complete as i still have to get a blue ray 3d player. im very impressed and satisfied with my curent set up. in all great 3d home theater set up for $1k optoma hd66 720p

I have had this for a few weeks now and use it for XBOX, XBOX Kinect, PC, Apple TV, and Google TV. I have also used it with Nvidia's 3D nVision. Playing PC Games, in 3D (with an XBOX controller) is pretty sweet. I am projecting on a white wall in the basement and that seems to be fine for me (may do a special paint on the wall later). Even in daylight or with the lights on the image is great (Kinect isnt doable in really low light so some light is necessary). Movie nights are a blast. I have PC speakers hooked up to it with a sub so it sounds great also. Built in speakers are OK for a quick and dirty but you really want to hook up speakers. I ceiling mounted the projector and I am still trying work out the cable management but that setup was a snap. Very happy with this purchase. I could not be happier with this little powerhouse of a projector. This is my third projector since building my home theater and the only one that I purchased that costs below $4K. I am using Samsung BD6700 DVD, 35 foot HDMI cable, Optoma 3DXL 3D converter, and Jet Black DLP Link Glasses, which are the cheapest and best 3d glasses available. I have a Denon 4806CI AV receiver so I am using the dual outputs from the Samsung BD6700, one for video and the other for audio into the Denon in order to get around purchasing a new 3D passthrough receiver. I used an Epson universal cieling mount that I picked up at Staples for $88 bucks. As others have mentioned, you absolutely need to tweak the brightness, contrast, and color temperature settings out of the box but, once you do, you get an excellent picture that rivals projecttors that cost several thousand more. Watching a 3D movie was amazing, I was stunned by the quality. My daughter had just returned home after taking her son to a 3D movie when I was first testing a 3D movie at home and thought the picture quality and 3D effects were better at home. I recently bought the HD66 Projector and it was very easy to install, if your looking for a good HD Projector that does not put a hole in your pocket this is the one to buy. When i received it in the mail i took it out of the box and hooked it up to my PS3 just by the HDMI cable and it worked great the Picture Quality was great i was a little scared when i bought it at first cause i thought maybe the reviews were B.S. but im telling you i think it was a great quality for a projector under 700 dollars. My video games and the Blu ray movies looked great. the projector was about maybe 12ft away from the wall and without a screen or anything it looked great on the wall itself. I also connected it to my Direct TV HDDVR and it worked great the channels came out in HD and everything. I am looking foward in buying the extra 3D accessories to see what it looks like in 3D but over all this projector was great we watched 2 Blu-Ray movies on my PS3 and we used the wall as a screen and it looked great the screen was really big i say about 95 to 100". oh yeah and adjusting the screen was very easy for me it took me like 2 minutes maybe i just got lucky, dont know. Overall if you are reading this review trust me it is a great buy for movies and games like i said i have not tested the 3D but im hopeing it looks as good as everything else optoma hd66

I only review if the product is really good or really bad! This product is awesome. We wanted a projector for 2 years but nothing was in our price range until this one. We have had it for over a year now and we are very satisfied. In the summer we use it outside with a large screen. The kids (3) love having a drive in movie theater in the backyard! I am a stickler for picture quality and this projector does not disappoint! My house TV is a Panasonic VIERA Plasma which is probably the standard for HD. I have to say this one is as close as a DLP could be. The only slight negative is the control button is not as intuitive as it could be. No one should complain about that at this price. This was basically a like model replacement. I had the 720p Optoma equivalent but this was is so much brighter. I did have to change all the default settings but that was fairly simple. The projector generates a little more heat than the other projector. I can even watch movies during the day or with some lights on with this projector which is better than before. I've owned an Optoma projector for over fours years and have been extremely satisfied with the quality and performance of it; especially considering the low price. The old projector (EP716) was used 7 days a week, 12 to 16 hours/day for both work and home theater. It's a workhorse. In the past few months I've been reading reviews and preparing to upgrade to a new projector, not because my old Optoma had died, but because I wanted a better picture for home theater purposes. After reading dozens of reviews, I almost took a gamble on a different projector; because of the ambiguous reviews. I'm glad I went with my intuition and stuck with Optoma. This little gem is brighter and provides a better picture than any other projector I've ever seen, even those at a much higher price point. I'm not new to projectors. As a former college educator and now a training consultant, I've worked with literally dozens of brands and hundreds of models over the past 30 years. Amazon's price is one of the lowest on the market and with Amazon Prime, I got free shipping and the peace of mind knowing if anything went wrong they'd take it back without question. Thank heavens it arrived the next day in perfect condition. It was very simple to set up and was up and running in about 5 minutes. The packaging was fantastic. It was packed with air cushioning and then packed inside a second box with added cushion. This little gem also has HDMI for HDTV. I've interfaced it with my PC and HDTV tuner. I'm getting 1080P on my PC and 1080i on my TV. Wow! What a difference. The throw ratio is higher than my old projector, so instead of a 60" diagonal screen, I'm getting a 75" diagonal screen from the same distance. The picture is crystal clear and my partner, who has a 47" Samsung LED flat screen, is envious. He says it rivals his picture. I was looking for a projector to show Harry Potter for my sons birthday and to watch movies outdoors this summer and my brother, who also owns this model, said to try this one out because he loved it. Well he was right. The picture in a dark room is incredible. We have shown it on the wall and on the EPSON DUET projector screen (which is pretty cool too). We have watched The Final Four (From a dish network receiver), Shrek 4 (from a Samsung Blue Ray Player), Legends of the Guardian (From the PS3), and Tron(From a dish network receiver) . The colors were all incredible and the black levels are great. The only minor issue I had was that the projector would not find my Samsung Blue Ray player with a 25 ft HDMI cable, but it would with a 10 ft cable. Not a projector issue I am sure as the 25 ft cable works with the projector and the PS3. In a well lit room the projector looks okay (obviously not as good as when the room is dark). With a little light filtering into the room, the projector still looked really good. I also adjusted settings according to one of the other reviews and it seemed to make the picture even better than it looked out of the box (which was still really good). No 720p projector can beat HD66, especially at this price range!! Was so impressed how small it actually is. Definitely needs some adjustments out of the box, but once you get it looking how you like you will not stop watching/downloading strictly hd shows/flicks. Seriously, optoma sets the standard, having a lcd projector in the past dlp surely looks the best. Perfectly portable on my vanguard tripod, I live in Jamaica and project this on every wall, bush, tree, bottom of swimming pools, etc, and its still super bright on eco mode. I knew very little about home theater projectors when i decided to purchase one. I wanted one for use with my xbox360 and to watch HD material from my htpc. My aim was to do this for under $1000. I have a reasonably high tech level but had no exposure to the world of home theater projectors. I researched tons of projectors before making a decision. I compared them for lumens, resolution, throw, overscan, noise, black levels, price, and numerous other factors. I was very hesitant to purchase something i knew little about. After much deliberation, i ended up deciding to buy an optoma. Originally i wanted the HD20 but, when compared to the HD66, it wasn't worth the extra $250 (and twice as much for bulbs) for the extra resolution at the sacrifice of light output. Now that it's arrived, i couldn't be happier with my HD66. i have it on a 84" screen from about a 10' throw. The resolution is better than i hoped for. In a pitch black room it's very comparible to 42" 720p lcd i have in the bedroom but i blows the door off that tv in picture size. Some ambient light doesn't seem to hurt it too bad either. I am fine having both lamps on in the living room. So if you're like i was, debating all the various projectors on the market for a budget price, don't hesitate to pull the trigger on this one. Bought this projector for my basement theater. I have it hooked up to my computer via high speed Hdmi. I ordered a mount off of amazon and have it mounted to my ceiling also. Blurays and HD movie files look great on screen. Standard definition is just as it is with any other television that does not up-convert the source to HD (Have not tried 3D yet). I had to change some color settings on the projector itself to achieve the best color but it was not hard to do. This projector is the best 720p projector for the price in my opinion. Would recommend to anyone looking for an HD projector that cannot afford a full HD 1080p projector optoma hd66 720p

Great picture! Sharp colors. My only complaint is that lighter images show the screen door effect. Also a bit of rainbow effect is visible, but not a serious problem. The 3D is a bit misleading since you'll need an additional device (Optoma 3D XL) + 3D glasses to get 3D working. This was not a big priority on my list - price, color, and brightness in HD were my main desires. They were completely met with this product. optoma hd66 1080p

I reviewed many different projectors before finally purchasing this one. I have it projecting on a flat, white wall from about 15' away and the seating is also about 15' away. The high definition is outstanding on this projector. I also have a 52" Sony Bravia 1080p LED and this is definitely comparable to that which is amazing considering it's much, much bigger. The menu options do not need much tweaking despite what you may read in some people's reviews. I increased my contrast to 61 and I decrease my brightness to 48 during the day and move it down to 40 at night. If you are looking at buying this model I would strongly advise doing so. Only downside is that the zoom is very limited and there is no lens shift capability so if you're working with a small area you might want a projector with lens shift and zoom but if not then this model is definitely worth the money! I've had friends over to see it and no one can believe that it only cost $630. The PS3 looks outstanding on this as well. I can not comment on the 3D capabilities as the converter box is sold out at the moment and did not get to test that out but if it's as good of quality as the rest of the projector then I am not worried one bit. optoma hd66 review
