Great For Passing Time in Between Classes (2010-03-01)I received this as a Birthday gift last month. I am impressed with it so far.
It comes with the Gran Turismo game which I have yet to play as I downloaded and purchased other games before I plugged it into my system.
The free movie download would be nice if The Italian Job were a film I was interested in seeing. The silver system overall is nice, fingerprints do not show up to badly on the system. Battery Power is short as far as handheld gaming goes...mine lasts 4-5 hours of straight play.
The downloadable comic feature is really nice and I find myself using that as much as playing my games.

I basically use this as a way to pass time while sitting in my college class buildings in between classes.
This would be good for a moderately lengthened car ride (3-4 hours) or domestic plane trip.
Best PSP racing game ever! (2010-02-23)I got this game for my birthday because i really wanted a psp. Gran turismo is good and i really like it. However, the movie that comes with it, the Italian Job, takes up the entire 2gb memorystick that also comes with it. And the 10 free songs from sony that come with it come from sony's version of iTunes, the website that the songs come from are from people i personally didn't like, and most popular artists are not even there. Overall I really like the Gran Turismo Pack, it's worth the (...) price.
Awsome! (2010-02-16)First ever psp! very light and slim, almost too light for me, feels like cheap plastic... but i will overlook that because it is so cool. the games are really nice too...
PSP 3000 Limited Edition Gran Turismo Entertainment Pack (2010-02-11)I got this for my child for Christmas it came with everything you needed so on Christmas my child was extremly happy and hasn't stopped playing with it since.
Best than PSPgo (2010-02-01)It's mnice PSP, and has no finger print issue.
Gran Turismo is not so graet game!
It comes close to portable gaming perfection (2009-11-15)We've been a PS3 household ever since the 60GB version came about so, with two pre-teens in the house, we were ripe for a PSP adoption. We actually bought the Ratchet & Clank Pack some time ago because one of my kids was a fan of the game. The Hannah Montana bundle followed shortly after because our 6 yr. old was Hannah Montana's biggest fun. But we have 2 boys and junior maxed out on the GT Prologue on the PS3 and he 'lost' the 3000 we got him a few months ago at school so... here comes the PSP 3000 GT pack.
THE BUNDLE
----------
The bundle costs a little more than the 'clean' PSP-3000 but, in our case, the convenience of getting it together with a great game AND a memory card AND all the other freebies justified the extra expense.
The 'Pack' includes the following:
- The PSP 3000 itself in silver
- 2GB Memory card
- Gran Turismo, of course - click on the link for the game's reviews
- A voucher for The Italian Job (not exactly a hit movie)
- More vouchers for a car and a few downloaded songs
- Manual, promos, registration card, etc.
Since this is not our first PSP-3000, it was up and running within minutes but, trying to be objective, someone new to the PSP environment should be able to have it running with basic functions pretty quickly - half an hour to a couple of hours.
Note:
Given the PSP's built-in Wi-Fi and its PS3 integration you can do quite a few things out of the box if you have Wi-Fi or a PS3 but, for a better gaming experience we ordered a 16GB memory stick and will probably be using the included 2GB to archive photos - will hold over 1000 - because we are planning to store a few movies when taking it on the road. Movies take about 0.5GB each and we just downloaded the digital copy that came with the Blu-ray 1998 Godzilla. The Italian Job... maybe we can find a buyer for it :)
FIRST PSP 3000 IMPRESSIONS
--------------------------
I was surprised of how good and versatile and elegant this little console can be. It has most of the PS3 buttons, including one analog joystick, the display is large and bright, the resolution is good for the screen size (480x272), and it responds quickly to controls. It appears to be solidly built. Unlike prior models, the 3000 comes with a built-in microphone while the sound output can be either through the internal speakers or headphones (not included). After charging the battery, my kid was up and running and happy in no time. It's worth noting that the silver finish is more forgiving than the regular piano black PSPs when it comes to fingerprints. But, let me proceed with a more structured discussion.
STAND-ALONE OPERATION (DISCONNECTED)
----------------------------------------
Once charged, the PSP 3000 will play games or movies delivered on UMDs or off a Memory Stick card. In addition, it will display photos and play music stored on the Memory card.
NETWORKING AND INTERNET CONNECTIVITY
--------------------------------------
The built-in Wi-Fi allows the PSP 3000 to access the Playstation Netowork and Playstation Store directly. Off the box, there is an Internet browser, a Search (the Internet) function, several Internet Radio applications and the ability to use the PSP as a Skype phone for as long as one has a Skype account and the PSP happens to be within the range of a Wi-Fi hotspot.
PS3 INTEGRATION
-----------------
After the PSP is paired with the PS3, the PS3 can 'push' video, photos, music and even PSP games downloaded from the Playstation Store when connected through a USB wire. When wireless, the PSP can basically take over the PS3 - actually display the PS3's own screen and display photos stored on the PS3, play music stored on the PS3. Movie play is not supported. Amazingly, you can access your PS3 remotely from anywhere in the Universe for as long as your PSP can access the Net via Wi-Fi.
When playing music, it's possible to play it on the PSP's own speakers/headphones or have the PS3 play it itself, the PSP therefore acting as a remote control device.
PC INTEGRATION
----------------
Through a USB connection, the PC will see the PSP's memory card as an attached drive. This will allow for music, photo or movie files to be transferred directly to the PSP.
ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT
----------------------
The PSP 3000 comes very close to being the perfect portable game-playing (and more) machine, at least in the Sony universe. Perfection would be achieved if the 'keyboard' interface were improved - it's awful now - if it had touch screen capabilities and if file transfers from the PS3 were possible wirelessly. Also on the wish list, I hope that there were more legal 'digital copy' movies available for the PSP. And Bluetooth.
PSP 3000 vs. PSP GO
---------------------
The question begs itself: how about a PSP Go? Well, in our case, the Go was out of the question because the Go price is a little to high - we have 3 kids - and we would rather keep our games on disks so that they can be easily shared amongst our tribe and won't depend too much on our memory card's limitations. In addition, we buy quite a few games on impulse and end up selling them a few days later because the kids don't like them so we like the ability to sell our games and to buy games 'used'. Not to mention the ability to trade games with other kids. Of course, our concerns may not apply to everyone.
MY RATING
-----------
For anyone who happens to be a Grand Turismo fan, this is the perfect bundle. Well... the only bundle. If GT is not your game, then you are probably better off with a 'clean' PSP and then get your own memory card, games, movies, etc.
For what you get, it's a 4.5 stars plus, rounded up to 5.

Note:
It would be almost sinful not to protect your new PSP. We use PSP Logitech PlayGear Pocket - Slim. It doesn't have compartments to store UMDs or memory cards but it does wrap around your 3000 like a glove and, in my view, it provides the best protection.
Amazing handheld, decent starter bundle (2010-01-14)Just got this over Christmas. Absolutely adore it so far. The PSP is amazing as a gaming device and has some great multimedia capabilities as well. You can use it for watching movies, listening to music, viewing photos, and it even has a rudimentary web browser (usable with most wireless hotspots). Mind you, if you're looking for a dedicated multimedia device you should probably look elsewhere, but they're great options to have on what's otherwise a very capable gaming machine.
The bundle comes with Gran Turismo and a 2 GB memory card, useful start to your PSP collection. 2 GB is nice if you want to store a little bit of everything--on my card right now I've got two full PS1 games (downloadable through the Playstation Network), some game demos, about 20 songs and some photographs, with about 800 MB to spare--but you'll really want to upgrade to a larger capacity card if you want to take full advantage of the PSP. I plan on buying a 16 GB card once I get the money.
Gran Turismo PSP is nothing new for me after playing GT3 and 4 on the PS2, but if you're a fan of the series it's a nice experience to have on the go. Note that there's no career mode on GTPSP and no night tracks for some reason. One thing you should also keep in mind is that the loading times are really terrible. There's an option to install the game onto your memory stick (which makes it load considerably faster), but that takes up a full 1 GB of space. Not really worth it imo, unless you get a bigger card.
This bundle pack also comes with a movie, The Italian Job, and ten free music downloads. I haven't checked out either yet, so I can't really comment on them.
In any case, the best way to sum up the PSP's gaming abilities would be to call it a portable PS2-lite. Graphically, most games on the PSP are about 75% what you'd expect from a PS2, which is to say they're pretty damn beautiful for a device which fits snugly in your pocket. Slowdown hasn't been an issue at all for me, though one thing the PSP could make use of is some decent anti-aliasing; in-game models often seem considerably more jagged than they need to be. Ultimately, the PSP offers PS2-esque visuals in a bite sized package, complimented by a large screen which leaves little to be desired.
Controls are also similar to the PS2, minus two shoulder buttons and the right analog stick. Also, instead of a left analog stick you have an analog 'nub' that just barely sticks out of the console. It's actually my biggest complaint with the controls. Nice to have, but no replacement for a standard stick, and I get cramps when I try to use it while my finger is above the L Button. Otherwise the PSP's controls are flawless.
Battery life is decent for one day excursions, about 5 or 6 hours on one charge, but I'd recommend a spare if you plan on taking it out for longer than two or three days, or on long road trips.
The multimedia capabilities of the PSP are great to have, but should not be your primary motivation for getting the console. Web browser is good for checking your e-mail quickly (I can access Gmail with no problems), but otherwise it's very limited in function. Can't stream videos over the net, can't do pretty much anything with flash, and you can't have more than three tabs open at once. And sometimes you'll get limited memory warnings on larger pages. Stick to the mobile versions of websites and you'll be fine though. Look around and you'll even find ways to login to your AIM, MSN, and other messenger services while on the go. Convenient, if imperfect.
The PSP is kind of a fragile console (and the screen is a freaking dust magnet), so it might be wise to invest in a carry case and a screen protector.
Overall, I absolutely adore my PSP despite it's flaws, which is why I'm giving it 5 out of 5. It's just an amazingly fun and cool handheld and I don't regret my purchase one bit. Worth every penny.
Wonderful (2010-01-11)Was able to get this while it was on sale through Amazon right before Christmas. Great for kids and adults a like. Mostly use it for games such as Mah-jong and pinball. If you are an adult with medium to large hands you may want to purchase Logitech's clear case to go with it. I find it easier to hold while in that case. I have also found the Internet radio software that came with it handy while working. Usually wind up listening to classical while working.
Forget the "Go" and go with this kit (2009-10-27)I needed a new PSP and decided to stick with the UMD supported PSP 3000. This bundle rocks. You get the PSP 3000, UMD game, memory stick, and movie. All for $200!!! If you are considering a PSP, I would recommend this bundle to you!!
This game is the best game ever (2009-12-19)My son received the PSP and Grand Turismo game as a gift. He doesn't put it down. I have enjoyed playing also. |
